Advancing Children’s Behavioral Health Through Systems Integration
Wednesday, October 25th
9:15AM-10:45AM
Early life experiences profoundly impact children’s development. Mental health issues and adverse events during childhood are associated with lower educational achievement, involvement in the criminal justice system, and poorer health outcomes in adulthood. With numerous systems serving children, states are adopting cross-cutting strategies to promote children’s behavioral health and establish early interventions that support lifelong health. This session explores states’ opportunities, challenges, and experiences.
Speakers:
Donna Bradbury, Associate Commissioner, Division of Integrated Community Services for Children & Families, New York State Office of Mental Health
Linda McCall, Program Director, Long Term Care and Behavioral Health, Georgia Department of Community Health
Allison Sampson-Jackson, Chief Executive Officer, Integration Solutions
- Cheryl J. Roberts, Deputy Director of Programs, Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services
This session is being sponsored by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration

For individuals living with complex, often chronic conditions, and their families, palliative care can provide relief from symptoms, improve satisfaction and outcomes, and help address critical mental and spiritual needs during difficult times. Now more than ever, there is growing recognition of the importance of palliative care services for individuals with serious illness, such as advance care planning, pain and symptom management, care coordination, and team-based, multi-disciplinary support. These services can help patients and families cope with the symptoms and stressors of disease, better anticipate and avoid crises, and reduce unnecessary and/or unwanted care. While this model is grounded in evidence that demonstrates improved quality of life, better outcomes, and reduced cost for patients, only a fraction of individuals who could benefit from palliative care receive it.
