Kaiser Family Foundation’s David Rousseau Joins NASHP’s Corporate Board
David Rousseau, vice president and executive director of Health Policy Media and Technology at KFF (the Kaiser Family Foundation) and publisher of Kaiser Health News, has been elected to the Center for Health Policy Development’s board of directors. The board is responsible for the legal and financial oversight of the organization and provides the corporate structure to support the NASHP. Previously, Rousseau was director of the foundation’s statehealthfacts.org project and was an associate director of the Kaiser Program on Medicaid and the Uninsured, focusing on Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program spending, financing and enrollment, as well as Medicaid service delivery issues, including managed care. He also serves on the board of Grantmakers In Health and chairs the board of Media Impact Funders.

For individuals living with complex, often chronic conditions, and their families, palliative care can provide relief from symptoms, improve satisfaction and outcomes, and help address critical mental and spiritual needs during difficult times. Now more than ever, there is growing recognition of the importance of palliative care services for individuals with serious illness, such as advance care planning, pain and symptom management, care coordination, and team-based, multi-disciplinary support. These services can help patients and families cope with the symptoms and stressors of disease, better anticipate and avoid crises, and reduce unnecessary and/or unwanted care. While this model is grounded in evidence that demonstrates improved quality of life, better outcomes, and reduced cost for patients, only a fraction of individuals who could benefit from palliative care receive it.
